A classically trained violinist and experienced teacher, Matthew Rhodes graduated cum laude from the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. Awarded a generous scholarship as a student of Mark Rush, Matt has performed public solo recitals featuring the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Sarasate, among others.

In 2017, Matt’s string quartet performed the Grieg String Quartet in its entirety at the Lamont Chamber Honors Concert. The quartet was also featured in a masterclass with the Harlem String Quartet and an on–stage performance in Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. Matt has coached chamber music with the Felici Piano Trio, Amadi Azikiwe, Kitty Knight, Susan Cahill, and Mark Rush. Matt was first violinist of the Greyhound String Quartet, founded in 2017.

An avid orchestral violinist, Matt served as Concertmaster of the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2021-22 season. He has also performed with the Lamont Symphony and the Littleton Symphony Orchestras, performing repertoire ranging from symphonies to full-length operas. Matt has performed as a freelance musician playing various engagements from mixed ensembles to chamber orchestras.

Matt is equally at home in the private studio and the classroom, having taught theory and history in classical schools. His private students not only lead their respective school ensembles, but are also found sitting principle stand in college orchestras, youth orchestras, honor orchestras, and summer festivals. Matt currently lives in Vancouver, BC with his wife, also a violinist.
